History of Chippendale Furniture

Named after famed London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale—the first person to have a namesake furniture style aside from royalty—Chippendale furniture has graced homes since the mid-1700s. It has since stood the test of time—both as highly cherished antiques and reproductions that are still made today. In our more-modern rendition (one that can endure nature's elements), we edited the original cabriole-style legs, back splat, and top rail in cleaner lines. The term Chippendale traditionally describes dark wooden furniture, but our outdoor-friendly Chippendale Collection is built with genuine POLYWOOD lumber, which mimics the look and feel of real wood but requires minimal upkeep. It's also available in a variety of colors, including bright white, modern gray, deep brown, and goes-with-everything black.
