The majority of HDPE we use is recycled post-consumer and post-industrial plastics. We process these materials at our on-site facility to further reduce environmental impact, and 99% of all scrap material is reused. Learn more about our recycling process.
Genuine POLYWOOD lumber is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and does not contain wood or any natural fibers. Learn more about our materials.
HDPE stands for high-density polyethylene, an exceptionally durable plastic with infinite recyclability.
Yes, our light-stable pigments, along with UV inhibitors and stabilizers, run continuously throughout the material and protect our lumber from harmful environmental degradation. No painting or waterproofing is required!
The weight of each chair varies based on the size and shape, but they average between 30 and 50 pounds each. All POLYWOOD furniture is built to withstand the harshest weather—each piece can be easily moved by one or two people. Yet it's heavy-duty and durable enough so you won't have to worry about your furniture blowing away in strong winds.
Each product is run through a variety of tests to comply with ASTM standards. POLYWOOD chairs are weight tested up to 300 pounds per seat, although many products can withstand much more.
All of our HDPE lumbers offer excellent moisture resistance. POLYWOOD Select™ lumbers feature a highly compact microscopic structure thanks to Microcell™ technology, resulting in a less porous surface with superior moisture impermeability and extra-easy cleanability.
All genuine POLYWOOD lumbers feature ColorStay™ technology, or UV-inhibiting compounds that are fully integrated throughout the material to lock in lasting color and fade resistance.
The colors of POLYWOOD lumber run continuously throughout the material, so no painting is required. However, we do not recommend painting your furniture, as this will void the warranty.
POLYWOOD lumber should not be sanded as it will scratch the material's surface and void the warranty.
Yes, our ClimateTuff™ materials are extensively tested to the extremes, guaranteeing peak performance in a range of weather conditions—including hot sun, rain storms, snowy winters, salt spray, and heavy winds. (If you prefer covers to make seasonal cleaning easier and extend your furniture’s lifespan, we recommend the Coverstore.)
Yes, a high-pressure power washer (not to exceed 1,500 psi) can be used to deep clean POLYWOOD furniture. If you don’t have a power washer, POLYWOOD lumber is very low maintenance and easy to clean with soap, water, and a soft-bristle brush. Learn more about our Care & Maintenance Tips.
Yes, we believe in our products, and stand behind their quality and durability with an exceptional warranty. For details, see the full POLYWOOD warranty.
Each piece of POLYWOOD furniture includes a sticker with a unique serial number. You can find the stickers on the backs or bottoms of products, such as table legs or seat undersides. POLYWOOD cushions also include serial numbers on the sewn-in tags. Watch this short video to find your product's serial number.
For optimal performance and longevity, we use durable marine-grade quality hardware to assemble and construct all POLYWOOD furniture.
POLYWOOD furniture is designed to require minimal assembly. Some models even unfold right out of the box with no assembly necessary. Those that require assembly often take less than 30 minutes to complete and include basic tools with simple instructions. For assembly assistance, visit our Assembly Tips page.
For the best year-round performance in outdoor settings, POLYWOOD cushions and pillows are crafted with outdoor performance fabric that resists weather, salt, sun, mold, and mildew; and filled with durable, thick, and quick-drying blended polyester fiber. Learn more about our cushion materials.
POLYWOOD cushions are designed to be quick and easy to clean. For more information, please see our Care & Maintenance Tips.
Our seat cushions that are custom-made for our Adirondack chairs, chaise lounges, rocking chairs, swings, gliders, dining chairs, and benches with backs include ties that allow them to be securely attached to each coordinating seat.
You can pick different color combinations for our existing deep seating frames and cushions using the fabric and lumber options we offer. If the lumber and fabric combination you want isn't shown on the item's product page, please send us a request for your desired pairing. Be sure to choose Product or General Question, then Unlisted Product Combination from the request form's drop-down menu. Our team will gladly help you select from the available shades.
Since POLYWOOD furniture is all-weather, it does not require a cover. However, covering your furniture will make seasonal cleaning easier and prolong its life. We recommend selecting furniture covers from the Coverstore.
It is! To clean and sanitize your furniture, mix mild dish soap, a little bleach, and warm water in a bucket. Apply the solution to the lumber and let it soak for a few minutes, then scrub all surfaces with a soft-bristle brush. Finish up with a quick rinse from your garden hose and let your furniture air-dry.
If you're seeking a natural alternative to bleach, try undistilled white vinegar. For more cleaning tips, visit our Care & Maintenance page.
Yes. Once your furniture is assembled, peel the plastic film off all POLYWOOD medallions. The film protects the medallion during transit and assembly but should be removed afterward. Otherwise, UV exposure will cause the film to degrade, which can prematurely age the metal medallion beneath it.
Aluminum cleans easily with soapy water and a soft cloth—simply wash, rinse, and towel-dry. Avoid using abrasive pads or harsh chemicals on aluminum, as these can damage the finish.
See detailed cleaning instructions on our Care & Maintenance page.
The powder-coated finish is specially formulated to block UV rays, ensure long-lasting color vibrancy, and protect aluminum from the elements.

Our aluminum patio furniture can be left outside year-round without issue thanks to its high resistance to weather, corrosion, and other harsh elements.
POLYWOOD aluminum furniture is built to live outdoors—it doesn’t need to be covered or stored. However, covering your pieces does keep dust and dirt at bay, making future cleaning easier. Plus, our aluminum chairs are stackable, simplifying storage.

Yes—our Laguna Collection is specifically designed for in-pool use.* However, we don’t recommend using our other furniture collections in your swimming pool.

*Do not place in-pool furniture in water deeper than nine inches; otherwise, it might float.
Marine-grade resin is a strong and durable material that’s highly resistant to water and UV rays. In-pool furniture from our Laguna Collection is made from marine-grade resin, or linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).
Marine-grade resin is easy to clean with soapy water and a soft-bristle brush. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry your furniture before placing it back on your pool ledge or storing it.
See detailed cleaning instructions on our Care & Maintenance page.
You can leave marine-grade resin furniture on your pool’s tanning ledge year-round without worrying about damage from sun, salt, or chlorine.
Marine-grade resin is durable in all weather and can be used outside for a long time, so furniture covers and storage are not needed. However, covers can keep dirt, dust, and pollen away, making cleaning easier later. If you cover or store your furniture in the off-season, make sure it is completely dry and drained of water first.
We offer pergolas in two sizes: 8’ x 12’ and 12’ x 12’.
Our outdoor pergolas are made with reinforced POLYWOOD lumber and marine-grade quality hardware.
Yes. Our pergolas are engineered to endure years of blizzards, heavy rain, fluctuating temperatures, and other harsh weather conditions.
You can leave your POLYWOOD pergola outside all year long — no need to cover or dismantle in the off-season.
Our pergolas work best on footings, pylons, and flat, hard, level surfaces such as concrete, decking, and installed pavers with an appropriate substrate.
Yes. Anchoring your pergola in place keeps the structure from shifting in strong winds, heavy rain or snow, and fluctuating temperatures.
Permanent structures may require a building permit. As the purchaser and/or installer of this product, you are advised to consult local planning, zoning, and building inspection departments for guidance on applicable building codes and/or zoning requirements.
No, our pergolas are sold as described on the product pages.
We currently offer our pergolas in POLYWOOD Select™ Natural. More color options will be available in the future.
Like POLYWOOD furniture, our pergolas need minimal cleaning and care to keep them in top shape.

For a professional contractor, the estimated installation time for a POLYWOOD pergola is roughly 2 ½ hours.

Please consult the specific user manual for your grill, fire pit, or chiminea to ensure flames will remain at a safe distance from any combustible materials, including reinforced POLYWOOD lumber.
POLYWOOD pergolas are backed by our 20-year lumber warranty.
Absolutely. Our pergolas would look great with strands of lights woven through the crossbeams or climbing plants vining their way through the top.
Accessories with a maximum weight of 30 pounds can be installed on the cross beams using standard decking hardware at least 1/2" away from any lumber edge. Meeting these requirements will not void the lumber component warranty.
We accept returns on pergolas. The product must be unassembled and in its original packaging. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs and a 25% restocking fee. See our Returns page for more details.
